Concept Development

Initial sketches were based off of our mission to design a lightweight, modern, side-lounge chair. From the beginning VERSA was designed to use stainless steel frame construction with a sling styled seat.

Ergonomic Development

Using a buck we designed to model the seating position of the final prototype and Alvin Tilley’s Measure of Man and Woman we determined the key angles to make Versa as ergonomically successful as possible.

Final Prototype

Once we finalized our dimensions and materials we began constructing the final 3 prototypes. Italian wool felt, genuine leather, and heathered upholstery fabric were used for the 3 sling styled seats. Construction of the frame was outsourced to a wire and metal fabricator.

Features

Laces on the bottom of the seat pan allow for the seat depth to be adjusted to the users preference. Laces also allow for easy interchangeability of slings. The frame is constructed of Lightweight 1” powder coated steel tubing.

Easy interchangeability of slings.

Awards

Versa was showcased at the 17th annual Humber Chair Show. A pannel of 10 judges from the local Toronto design community judged the chairs on ergonomics, cost, manufacturability, and use of materials. Versa won 2nd place in the judged competition.
