FUSION VISION SYSTEM AR Visor 2020 Client Work
Industrial Design

I was brought onto the Cortex design team to assist with the design of the Fusion Vision System (FVS) for Longan Vision. I was responsible for developing the aesthetics, ergonomics, and user interaction of the FVS. Sketching, quick CAD mock-ups, and model making were used to push concepts through to the final proof of concept.
Fusion Vision System (FVS) is an Augmented Reality Smart Visor that can be attached to a firefighter’s helmet. FVS provides enhanced vision and information sharing abilities that will allow firefighters to see through smoke, locate victims and find fire sources. The FVS combines thermal imaging, remote information sharing, environment analysis, a safety support system, and drone imagery to make this all possible.

The FVS uses thermal imaging and augmented reality to create hot spot detection and debris highlighting to help the firefighters see the unseen.
To validate the ergonomics and mechanical attributes of the design I built a sketch model and tested it on a firefighters helmet with firefighters gloves. Meeting the ergonomic needs of firefighters in uniform was an important consideration in the design. The sheer bulk of their gear restricts their range of motion and the thick gloves greatly reduce their dexterity.
